The Curriculum Development Project is a process to assist schools in creating a meaningful, sequential curriculum for all subject areas in all grades of the school. Without such a curriculum, a school will not be able to meet its goals.
The process of developing a school's curriculum starts with a committee of concerned lay persons and professional educators (the POD) who formulate the school's overall mission statement and broad-based school goals. These overarching statements inform later decisions related to specific content areas within the curriculum. Professional educators and thoughtful and knowledgable lay leaders then form a task force that, guided by an ACAJE consultant, develops the specifics that make the school's goals operational. Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education consultants have developed a process and workbook with which they facilitate the process of developing curricula. Once task force members have learned the process, a consultant serves as a “guide-on-the-side” for additional subject areas.
