Designated School Program: DSP

 

Evaluation of Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education's Designated School Program by Dr. Eleanor Weinglass, 2004.

The Designated School Program (DSP), in existence since 1993, is an intensive three-year process that provides organizational and leadership expertise to synagogue schools. The program has recently been evaluated to determine the long-term effect of the process on the schools.

The AUERBACH CAJE Commission on Jewish Early Childhood Education survey of parents of children exiting Jewish early childhood programs to ascertain the benefits that parents perceive in these programs and the impact Jewish early childhood education has had on these parents' decisions regarding continuing their ties to the Jewish community and continuing their children's Jewish education.

 

 

Jewish Education in Philadelphia

 

Jewish Education in Philadelphia : Historic Precedents and New Observations by Jonathan Rosenbaum, Ph.D. and Helene Z. Tigay, 2002.

This article examines some key elements of Philadelphia 's role in American Jewish education. It begins with an historical survey of Jewish education in Philadelphia , followed by a statistical picture of the student population in Jewish schools, and data on supplementary and day school teacher backgrounds. Analysis of the data, suggestions for action and proposals for further research are included.

The Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education engaged the Berman Center for Research and Evaluation of JESNA (Jewish Education Service of North America), led by Dr. Leora Isaacs, Vice President of Programs and Organizational Development, to conduct the evaluation of the Initiative. The focus and goals of the evaluation were tailored to each phase of the project. The evaluation design called for a multi-faceted approach that incorporated qualitative and quantitative data from multiple perspectives at various times throughout the life of the program.

A study of approximately 800 young Jews from the Greater Philadelphia area, this booklet also contains creative recommendations for their engagement and retention in both the formal and informal realms of Jewish life.

Although the school doors have been opened to children who have special needs, our current challenge is how to enable these students to become successful. These surveys note not only the types and numbers of these children, but also the requests for assistance from the school directors and teachers.

 

 

Teacher Recruitment

Evaluating the TeacherLink Program for Recruiting Teachers into the Jewish Supplementary Schools

Research conducted by Dr. Joseph Ducette, Temple University and summarized by Shelley Kapnek Rosenberg, Ed.D. 

The TeacherLink Program was created to expand the number of available candidates for teaching in synagogue schools and includes a training program for novice teachers. This evaluation covers both aspects of the program and provides additional valuable information about teacher recruitment.
